Are partial dentures uncomfortable?

Partial dentures are generally considered a comfortable solution to missing teeth.

Partial dentures are a great option for people who have lost some of their teeth but have some healthy, natural teeth remaining. They provide an aesthetically pleasing solution that can also function as a bridge, if necessary. Partial dentures are comfortable and easy to maintain, however, they may need adjustments over time.

If you’re considering getting partial dentures, read on to find out what they are used for and what you can do to ensure that your dentures remain comfortable in the long term…

What are partial dentures?

Partial dentures are used to replace one or more missing teeth. Unlike complete dentures, they do not replace an entire arch of teeth but are often a suitable option for individuals who have some natural teeth remaining.

Partial dentures are usually removable. They can help to enhance the appearance of one’s smile, and can also improve a number of oral functions, such as chewing, biting and speaking. By replacing missing teeth with partial dentures, it is often possible to preserve the remaining natural teeth and prevent them from shifting over time. This can go a long way in maintaining good oral health.

Why consider partial dentures?

Partial dentures are often an effective treatment for individuals who are looking for a comfortable solution to tooth loss. If you have lost some of your teeth as a result of tooth decay or injury, you may be a suitable candidate for the treatment.

There are a number of benefits to choosing partial dentures. Besides the fact that they are generally considered very comfortable to wear, partial dentures are also very durable. They can be made of a range of materials, depending on your needs and cosmetic goals.

Are partial dentures comfortable?

Although partial dentures are generally considered a comfortable solution to missing teeth, there are a few problems that can occur if your dentures do not fit correctly. Some of the most common issues include gum irritation; difficulty eating and speaking; dentures that feel loose; and infections in the mouth. In order to prevent these problems, it is important that you see your dentist for regular adjustments and relines. If you experience any discomfort, be sure to consult with your dentist so that they can check that your dentures are well-fitted.

When you first have your dentures fitted, you may find that it takes some time to get used to eating and speaking with ease. During this time, you might find it helpful to eat soft foods and to chew and speak slowly. In time, these actions will become easier and more comfortable.

It is completely normal for the structure and shape of your gums and bones to change over time. For this reason, your dentures may become loose or uncomfortable. If you notice a change in the way in which your dentures fit in your mouth, see your dentist as soon as possible. They may recommend that you have your dentures adjusted or replaced for a more comfortable and secure fit.
