How long does it take to get dentures?

The denture fitting treatment process can vary depending on the patient but typically it takes between 4 and 6 appointments to complete the process of getting dentures.

First of all, you will have an initial consultation during which we will also take your impressions to get an accurate picture of your mouth.

Secondly, you will be able to choose your custom dentures and decide upon the shape and colour you would like – further impressions may also be taken at this stage.

Third, we will use technology and wax bite moulds to determine your jaw positioning – this is so that we can create the most comfortable denture possible.

We then arrange an appointment where you can physically trial your new dentures, and make any requests for changes to be made.

Finally, your new denture will be fitted and it will take up to 8 weeks to become accustomed to your new dentures. You will, of course, be able to have any follow up appointments necessary too, to ensure that there are no irritating spots or parts that feel uncomfortable.

Caring for Dentures

Just as with natural teeth, it’s important to look after your dentures with proper denture care. This will involve regular brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups as well as avoiding anything which might break them down, such as bleach or harsh abrasives in certain kinds of toothpaste.
